About Jill Abram
Dr. Jill Abram is a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana with 38 years of experience. Throughout her career, her mission has been to be an instrument of healing and restoration to communities, families, and individuals through direct care and liaison with other health professionals employing the highest standards of psychiatric medicine. Her professional career and academic experience in psychiatry provide Dr. Abram with a wealth of knowledge and an unmatched skillset in offering mental health care. She has specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Abram’s Career
Jill Abram has positively impacted and helped countless individuals throughout her career. She served as the psychiatrist at the Homeless Mobile Team, Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, for two years, from 1988 to 1990. Dr. Abram later served as the psychiatrist for the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, for six years (1990-1996).
In 1996, she went into private practice for two years in Fishers, Indiana, while also the psychiatrist at Pleasant Run Children’s Home, a historic orphanage in Indianapolis.
She was in private practice in Anderson, Indiana, for almost seven years. During this time, Dr. Abram was also the adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. In addition, she provided her medical expertise and services as the psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.
Her bespoke career also includes a private practice in Indianapolis, a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary and Family Counseling Center, a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital, and working with the Medical Staff Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.
Dr. Abram was a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and part of the medical staff at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. She served Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana, through the Four County Counseling Center, helping to initiate psychiatric telemedicine services.
Notable elective experiences include consulting with the Department of Mental Health to develop a system of coordinated care with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children; consulting with the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center; participating in the
Conscience Development Research and Study Group; and participating in a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
Academic Experience and Accolades
Jill Abram graduated with a B.A. Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College, Indiana’s oldest private college, with a major in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Psychology. While at Hanover, she received the “Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman” based on her scholarship and community service.
Her medical education was at the Indiana University School of Medicine, which included a year of research. She was chosen to represent Indiana University at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association. She received the Academic Medicine Achievement Award. The program honors an outstanding graduating senior within the major who has demonstrated consistent excellence in academic medicine.
Dr. Abram’s residencies and fellowship were at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana, in Family Practice in June 1986-87 and at Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry (PGY-2, PGY-3, PGY-4) from June 1987 to June 1990. Her academic accomplishments were recognized in 1990 with the Golden Apple Award, and medical students elected her for making the most significant contribution to medical education. She completed the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, from June 1995 to June 1996.
She has published papers in the Journal of Endocrinology (114: 1818) and the Journal of Diabetes (33: 1062)
Licensures and Board Certifications
Before retiring, Dr. Abram was licensed in Indiana and Alaska. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has been a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since June 1991.
